Juniper or wild cypress (Juniperus communis L.) is a coniferous plant that grows in Europe, Asia and North America. Its fruits and extracts are traditionally used in medicine as diuretics, anti-arthritics, anti-diabetics, antiseptics, as well as in treatments of gastrointestinal and autoimmune disorders.
Juniper essential oil, rich in terpenoids and aromatic compounds, is scientifically proven to have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. It reduces the oxidative stress of cells, while increasing the antioxidant enzymes. Recent research has also shown anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects. It does not irritate the skin, nor is it phototoxic. Its woody aroma relieves stress, calms and relaxes.
